Our People

More than 3000 staff and 1000 volunteers make up the heart and soul of Mission Australia. We are united in our desire to see a fairer Australia and to help those in need find pathways to a better life. Together we embrace Mission Australia’s values of respect, integrity, compassion, perseverance and celebration. Our religious and ethnic backgrounds are many and varied. Our staff includes social workers, youth workers, psychologists, counsellors, community development workers, teachers, allied health workers, trainers, managers, administrators, entrepreneurs and fundraisers.

, BEc (Hons), LLB (Syd) was appointed Vice President in January 2001 and has been a director since 1995. He is Co-Head, Mergers & Acquisitions for Allens Arthur Robinson. He is a non-executive director of PMI Mortgage Insurance Ltd and KONE Elevators Pty Ltd.

Martin Watkins, BEcon (Hons), CA was appointed a Director in 1996. He is a chartered accountant and Director of Richfield Consulting, an executive recruitment company.

Ruth Armytage, AM was appointed a director in 1995. She is a company director with several community service organisations.

mission-australia-donald-robertson.jpg Donald Robertson, BA (Crim), MA (Ed), Dip Env Studies was appointed a director in 1992. He is Associate Professor and Director, Australian Centre for Security Research, University of Western Sydney.
Karin Sowada

Dr Karin Sowada, (PhD, BA Hons, ANZIIF [Aff]) was appointed to the Board in 2008. She is CEO of the Anglican Deaconess Institution Sydney Limited.

Stephen Anson, founded and grew a successful recruitment and HR consulting business. He transitioned into the health care and human services sector rising to Chairman of Bethesda Inc. His current software company manages web-based patient education for thousands of health care practitioners worldwide and has offices in Perth and Denver.

mission-australia-nicholas-barnett Nicholas S. Barnett, BEc. ACA was appointed a Director in 2008. He is co-founder and director of Leblanc Diagnostics, Chairman of First Samuel Limited and Insync Surveys Pty Ltd and an ex-partner of KPMG.
