14-03-2008

Mission Australia is one of the nation’s leading charities and community service organisations. Last year helped over 330,000 people. We make a real difference by working with people to meet their challenges and enabling them to pursue more positive, independent lives.

Annual Review 2008 Highlights

  • We helped more than 330,000 people through our employment, training and community services - a 9% growth on 2006-07
  • Our consolidated revenue grew by 16% and reached $294 million
  • We opened Chigwell House - a centre located in Tasmania that provides a range of community and accommodation services, including low-cost housing for those at risk of homelessness
  • We extended our early-childhood prevention programs by delivering new services in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales
  • We placed more people in jobs and apprenticeships than in any previous year
  • Our 2007 annual national survey of young people received its largest response to date and now has the reputation of being one of the most authoritative insights into Australia's young people

  • We launched our Integrated Youth Services Project in the Northern Territory – a three-year partnership with the Federal Government to help prevent drug abuse and anti-social behaviour among young Indigenous people living in remote communities
  • We opened Roma House, a new accommodation service aimed at helping long-term homeless people in Brisbane who have multiple and complex needs
  • Despite record number of low unemployment, Mission Australia’s employment services grew, and we assisted 202,000 people – an increase of 42,500 people since 2006
