Mission Australia’s operates several social enterprises - business ventures that also aim to achieve a social outcome – including:
Recycling, reducing and re-using in New South Wales
Mission Australia’s Bellambi hub is the base for a range of New South Wales (NSW) social enterprises that reduce landfill while providing jobs, training and volunteering opportunities both in the Illawarra and beyond.
Big Heart Op-Shop & Factory Seconds
Big Heart Op-Shop & Factory Seconds takes clothing, furniture and factory seconds donated by the community and businesses and sells them at low prices in eight Big Heart op shops and via its eBay store. It annually diverts thousands of tonnes from landfill and provides accredited training to the long-term unemployed.
Soft Landing
Soft Landing strips mattresses of reusable parts such as metal, foam and timber. It is supported by DEEWR’s Jobs Fund provides jobs and traineeships for local people.
Featherweight
Featherweight trains and employs people with disabilities to fill sports equipment such as punching bags with recycled mattress cotton. It is funded by the Australian Government’s Innovation Fund.
Bags of Rags
Bags of Rags produces and sells fabric offcuts from unusable Big Heart donations to automotive, manufacturing and hardware businesses. For more information email

GreenIT
Mission Australia GreenIT is an IT equipment reuse, refurbishment and recycling program that provides training opportunities while achieving social, environmental and financial benefits.
Urban Renewal
Urban Renewal is a Mission Australia-operated landscaping, gardening and light construction business that provides fixed-term, transitional work and training opportunities for previously unemployed and disadvantaged Victorians.
This social enterprise prides itself on delivering exceptional workmanship while improving the built environment and environmental sustainability of Victorian communities.
Charcoal Lane
Based in Melbourne’s Fitzroy, Charcoal Lane specialises in modern cuisine infused with native flavours. It also enables Aboriginal and disadvantaged young people to gain experience in a supported, real work environment while building personal skills and gaining accredited education in hospitality.
