Fairfax House (NSW)

Fairfax House is a medium-term supported accommodation service for homeless families, or those at risk of homelessness, with at least one child under the age of 16.

Catering for the fastest-growing group of homeless people – families – Fairfax House is one of only a small number of accommodation services that accepts diverse family groups.

Located in the Penrith Local Government Area, Fairfax House will accept different family groupings, including grandparents with grandchildren under their care, and two-parent or single-parent families.

It assists homeless families to find and retain safe, affordable and secure accommodation as well as build family skills and knowledge to reduce their future risk of homelessness.

Clients are referred from all over the state and by government and non-government organisations. Families can also self refer.

The service can accommodate up to 21 families in two and three-bedroom units.

Other service activities provided include:

  • Assessing client needs and developing individual support plans
  • Case management
  • Providing referrals to other agencies and specialist services
  • Informal counselling
  • Advocating for clients’ rights and needs
  • Working in collaboration with schools and other agencies to discuss welfare of children and promote awareness of their needs
  • Promoting independent living skills
