Creative Youth Initiative (NSW)

With support from musicians, artists and a social worker, students are assisted in developing a broad range of skills and are encouraged to use creativity as an outlet for the issues they are facing in their lives.

CYI's two core programs are Sounds of the Street (SOTS) and Artworks!
 

Sounds of the Street (SOTS)
SOTS is a 20 week TAFE accredited music course. Students learn to compose, perform and record their own music. In addition, they also have the opportunity to learn an instrument.

At the end of the program the students’ music is professionally mixed and mastered onto a CD and students perform their music at the annual CD launch.  

Artworks!
Artworks! is a TAFE Outreach accredited visual arts program, which provides materials, skilled one-on-one and group tuition, and a safe place in which to explore creativity. ARTWORKS! runs 3 days a week for 6 months with intake for the two semesters occurring in February and July. 

This visual arts program allows students to explore and experiment with various mediums including painting, sketching, sculpture, life drawing, spray art and graphic design. The student’s work is exhibited in an annual art exhibition and students are often commissioned to create murals, Christmas cards and art work for public or corporate entities.
