Canterbury-Bankstown Youth Services (NSW)

Canterbury Bankstown Youth Services (CBYS) is a youth accommodation and support service for young people aged 16 – 25 years old who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Mission Australia won the funding for this service in a tender process offered by NSW Department of Human Services - Community Services in 2010.

In summary, CBYS will provide...

  • A culturally and linguistically diverse service with culturally competent staff.
  • A flexible service delivery that meets the changing needs of young people. Individualised case planning and support is delivered in collaboration/partnership with young people.
  • A continuum of support options are offered with a single point of entry assessment that and ‘triage’ a young person and direct them to the most appropriate part of the service.
  • Ways to improve the expected educational outcomes for young people accessing the service.
  • Services that are family inclusive and that aim to address intergenerational issues for families accessing the service.
  • Partnership with other specialist services in the area to ensure young people access all appropriate support opportunities. CBYS will seek to coordinate the delivery of multiple services to ensure the needs of each young person are met.
  •  Short term intensive accommodation that provides assistance to young people overcoming crisis.
