Pathways to strong, healthy, happy families:

Communities for Children

Communities for Children delivers a range of programs to 0-5 year olds and their families in the Derwent Valley, Southern Midlands, Brighton and Central Highlands municipalities. Programs include:

  • Lets Read
  • Family Fun Days
  • Mobile playgroups
  • Positive Parenting programmes
  • Home Visits and
  • Healthy lifestyle


The Personal Helpers and Mentors Program

This program assists people who have a severe functional limitation resulting from mental illness. We help them manage their daily activities and access appropriate services. Our staff work with small caseloads and provide personal one-on-one support.


Chigwell House

Chigwell House is a service that provides a range of programs that assist clients to address their personal issues and enable them to secure and maintain stable housing.

Mission Australia Gateway is a Community service that operates out of a local office with a support telephone number for people to call when they require family assistance or assistance with the safety of children. Gateway promotes:

  • Listening to the concern and issues of families
  • Recognising the needs of each individual family
  • Providing families with information and advice
  • Referring families to support services where appropriate
  • Providing access to Integrated Family Support Services

The staff at Mission Australia’s Gateway listen and work with clients in a respectful way. Through talking together they will support clients to find options that are available to children, young people and families.


Who can use Gateway?

Gateway is a service in which anyone with a concern for the wellbeing and safety of a young person the age of 18 years, can communicate their concerns with a worker and if appropriate, the young person and their families can be linked into to the appropriate supports.

Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS)

Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS) aims to provide vulnerable children and families with individual support promoting the wellbeing and safety of children and young people. IFSS offers families an outreached based service which, through talking together and identifying needs, aims to strengthen relationships, develop skills and facilitate referrals to appropriate services.

IFSS is a family support service for eligible families referred from Gateway. IFSS provides vulnerable children, young people and their families with a tailored approach to meeting individual and family needs. IFSS workers can provide a holistic range of case management services for children, young people and families. This includes: providing information, counselling, advocacy, supported referrals to appropriate services, facilitation of family meetings and skill development.


Pathways through a successful youth:

U-Turn

U-Turn is a diversionary program for young people aged 15-20 who have been involved in, or are at risk of becoming involved in, motor vehicle theft. It aims to reduce the recidivism rate of young car theft offenders. Students undertake a structured 10-week automotive training course in car maintenance and bodywork, delivered in a workshop environment. Post-course support is available and past students are given the opportunity to work on completing their Certificate 1 in Automotive with support from the U-Turn team.


Youth Beat

Youth Beat is a mobile outreach service for young people in the Glenorchy municipality that provides counselling, referral and support out of business hours.
