These services operate from NSW and work in many different areas and helps people in metro, regional and rural communities. There are many other activities that Triple R Services are doing in communities, such as educational programs and community advocacy. Triple R Services involve a large group of passionate people who are professionals in counselling and experienced in delivering educational programs.
Pathways away from homelessness:
Mission Australia Centre
The Mission Australia Centre in central Sydney aims to break the cycle of homelessness. The service provides varying levels of intervention through flexible, innovative responsive services, programs and support options with a particular focus on aboriginal homelessness.
This groundbreaking centre is the first of its kind in Australia and provides a bridge to greater social and economic participation. Specialised staff and volunteers are committed to tackling the real problems faced by individuals - not just the symptoms. The non-institutionalised environment aims to prevent the stigmatisation felt by homeless and marginalised people in the past and prevent the ‘revolving door’ syndrome. It offers a range of services including accommodation, learning and education.
Housing and Support Initiative
The Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) is an innovative partnership between NSW Health, Housing NSW and community services organisations, including Mission Australia. It provides accommodation and support services for people with a moderate or high level of psychiatric disorder. Mission Australia provides HASI in North Sydney, North Coast, Dubbo and Coonabrabran.
Charles Chambers Court
Charles Chambers Court, located in Sydney’s inner city, is a fully accredited aged care facility. It provides high quality accommodation and personal care for homeless, frail or aged people. It enables the residents to lead an independent lifestyle. The service provides modern, stable and secure accommodation for elderly people, who have been living on the street and moving through crisis accommodation. It gives relief from the homeless circuit.
Missionbeat:
Mission Australia’s homeless outreach service, Missionbeat, patrols inner Sydney streets seeking out those in distress and offering them support. The iconic vans transport homeless men, women, children, families and intoxicated or drug affected men and women to services to meet their immediate needs, including safe accommodation, medical care or food and clothing. In June 2009 Mission Australia launched a new arm of the service, the Missionbeat Bicycles to improve the speed and flexibility of the service. Each day outreach workers on bicycles criss-cross the city talking to people sleeping rough in alleyways and alcoves where the vans can’t access. These dedicated and trusted staff use Mission Australia’s radio network to connect people with services – whether it’s calling a nurse to treat and dress an infected wound, arranging for a van to transport them to a shelter or contacting emergency services for crisis support. Missionbeat responds to public calls for help as well as calls from police, ambulance, community services and government departments.
Resource & Recovery program:
Resource & Recovery is a free Mental Health service delivered by Mission Australia in Dubbo, Bathurst, Parkes/Forbes and Cowra to improve the lives of 16-64 year olds who are recovering from a mental illness. Resource & Recovery will run through various stages of recovery with the client such as: goal setting, establishing links within the community and the transition to independent living and/or employment. Referrals can be made by medical professionals, family, friends or self referrals for persons recovering from mental illnesses.
