Macarthur Early Childhood Intervention Service (NSW)

Macarthur-Early-Childhood-Intervention-ServiceLocated in Leumeah in South West Sydney, Macarthur Early Childhood Intervention Service (MECIS) is an early childhood intervention program for children from birth to school-entry age with developmental delays and disabilities, and their families.

The team at MECIS are qualified early childhood educators, therapists and family support workers who, with support staff, work in an inter-disciplinary team to provide flexible and individually tailored programs to meet the needs of children and their families.

MECIS offers a range of services that are tailored to the needs of the child and family. Services may include individual speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and special education alongside a variety of groups and autism-specific programs, parent/carer support groups, transition-to -school support and, home-based intervention.

 

Special Needs Family Support – Challenging Behaviour

MECIS also offers the Special Needs Family Support – Challenging Behaviour program. This program is for families with a child, or children, up to 12 years who have been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or display other challenging behaviours.

The Challenging Behaviour Support program is designed to achieve improvements in the areas where the child and family are facing difficulties at home, in the classroom or social or in sporting groups.

 

South West Early Childhood Support (SWECS)

South West Early Childhood Support (SWECS) operates across South West Sydney and covers the Local Government Areas of Fairfield, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly.

The program provides support for children from birth to school-entry age who have disabilities or delays, or for whom there are concerns about their development and/or behaviour.

Support is offered to community-based and private long day care centres, preschools, occasional care services, family day care schemes and supported playgroups.

 

Referrals to the above programs can be made either by families, agencies or professionals with parental permission. Priority of access to SWECS is given to children who are attending school the following year, children whose inclusion in the early childhood setting is “at risk” and staff who are not receiving support from other service providers.
