Junaa Buwa! Centre for Youth Wellbeing (NSW)
Located in Coffs Harbour, Junaa Buwa! is a wellbeing centre for young people who have entered or are at risk of entering the juvenile justice system, and whose crimes are associated with drug and alcohol misuse.
The name Junaa Buwa! means “to declare a new beginning’” in the local Gumbaynggirr language.
This Mission Australia service provides holistic three-month live-in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs for up to eight young people aged from 13 to 18 from across New South Wales.
In addition to drug and alcohol counselling and therapy, the service provides vocational and education programs, living skills like cooking and budgeting, and sport and recreation programs to the young people in residence.
Residents also have access to aftercare support for six months after their stay at Junaa Buwa!, to ensure they can smoothly move back into the community and into work or study.
Junaa Buwa! is funded by the NSW Government’s Attorney General’s Department. It accepts referrals from Juvenile Justice, other community service organisations, family and self-referrals from young people.
