Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) (WA)
The Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) is an integrated service incorporating Next Step (a Government Alcohol and Other Drugs youth service) and Mission Australia’s Withdrawal and Rehabilitation units. It provides a key entry point to treatment for young West Australians with alcohol and other drug issues.
DAYS Withdrawal and Respite
We operate a round-the-clock residential withdrawal treatment and respite service for young people under 22 years who are affected by alcohol and other drugs. This service includes a medical assessment, ongoing health reviews and pharmacological interventions. DAYS staff also case manage and monitor the physical, psychological and mental health of young people.
DAYS Residential Rehabilitation
This 24/7 three-month residential therapeutic program for people under 19 years of age includes individual counselling, groups, life skills training, recreation, and health education. The program also provides support to the families of young people in the service as appropriate.
Youth Detention Counsellor Service
This service provides counselling, information and education on illicit substance misuse to young people aged 12 to 18 who are in juvenile detention centres (Banskia Hill and Rangeview). Our Youth Detention Counsellor also works with families and carers to support young people through their treatment. The service is a mechanism for juvenile offenders to receive treatment for illicit substance misuse on release to their communities.
Young Person Opportunity Program (YPOP)
This program provides short-term treatment intervention as an option for offenders with a drug-use problem. YPOP targets offenders aged 10 to 18 who are referred by the police or the courts to Juvenile Justice Teams.
Outreach and Psychological Support Services
These services aim to reduce the harms associated with drug and alcohol misuse by providing young people with appropriate support that is accessible, flexible and evidence-based.
Capacity-building Project
This project aims to improve services for young people experiencing co-morbidity (that is, co-occurring alcohol and other drug problems and mental illness) through training staff working at Mission Australia's residential programs.
