Queensland’s Crick Boat Building has been nominated for a Mission Australia Employer Award, recognising the Maryborough company’s efforts to provide employment and training opportunities for local job seekers.Mission Australia Employment Solutions Regional Manager Mitch Ryder said during the past three years company owner Andrew Crick has employed 11 job seekers through the local Mission Australia Employment Solutions office, including four who were long-term unemployed. “This company is helping to address unemployment in the region, as well as providing opportunities for young people to gain work experience to help them reach their career goals,” Mr Ryder said. “Crick Boat Building has shown a great understanding of the needs of job seekers, providing Mission Australia with the chance to monitor and coach clients to ensure they can succeed in their new jobs. “It’s great to work with a business that recognises the value of this support – it’s good for the client and good for the company.” Mr Ryder said the Mission Australia Employment Solutions’ inaugural Employer Awards are aimed at recognising businesses for their contribution to transforming lives by giving someone a job. The awards are open to all local employers using Mission Australia Employment Solutions services and who have placed a Mission Australia job seeker in the past 12 months. Local winners will be announced in October and will qualify for the national award, to be announced in November. The national winner will be recognised at a gala dinner and will receive a $5,000 prize to be used for business development. Employers can nominate themselves or be entered by a third party. Applications for the awards can either be obtained from a local Mission Australia Employment Solutions office or from the Employment Solutions website. Nominations close on Friday 30 September. |
