Clifton Adolescent and Family Solutions and Youth Connections, in partnership with Hornsby Council, the GP Network and the Hills Schools Industry Partnership are presenting a free series of information nights for parents living with teenagers.Two local speakers – Michael Reed and Greg Powell – who both highly experienced in working with parents and young people, will offer parents of teenagers some information and insight on communication and relationships. Michael Reed will talk about ‘Relationships, risk and resilience’, while Greg Powell will speak about ‘Positive conversations with your teenagers’ and ‘Strategies for stress’. Last year Mission Australia’s National Survey of Young Australians asked young people what their top concerns were. Of our 50,00 respondents, 27.8 per cent indicated family conflict was of major concern and it was the second top issue. Coping with stress was the third ranked issue of concern with 27.3 per cent of respondents indicating it was a major concern, up from 18.7 per cent in 2009. There will be three evenings of information each at Mission Australia, Level 1, 1 Coronation Street, Hornsby; Galston Community Health Centre, 17 Arcadia Road and Brooklyn Community Centre, 2-4 Dangar Road, including: Wednesday 21 September – ‘Relationships, risk and resilience’ at Hornsby Tuesday 4 October – ‘Relationships, risk and resilience’ at Galston Tuesday 20 October – ‘Positive Conversations with your teenager’ at Brooklyn Tuesday 25 October – ‘Positive Conversations with your teenager’ at Galston Wednesday 26 October – ‘Positive Conversations with your teenager’ at Hornsby Thursday 17 November – Relationships, risk and resilience’ at Galston at Brooklyn Tuesday 29 November – ‘Strategies for stress’ at Galston Wednesday 30 November – ‘Strategies for stress’ at Hornsby Thursday 8 December – ‘Strategies for stress’ at Brooklyn Bookings are essential.
