Catalyst-Clemente to feature on 6.30 with George Negus tonight |
| 21 September 2011 |
Tonight’s 6.30 with George Negus on Channel 10 will feature a report on Catalyst-Clemente, – a university course designed for people struggling with homelessness, mental illness and long-term unemployment.Delivered by community agencies - including Mission Australia - in partnership with universities, business and members of the community, Catalyst-Clemente is based on the idea that learning and community participation can help people to overcome poverty and social isolation. Students study one subject at a time across 12 weeks in a community setting. On completing four subjects, students receive a Certificate of Liberal Arts from a university, which can provide a pathway for entry into further undergraduate study. Addressing Multiple Disadvantage, a new research snapshot that reports on this educational initiative and its impact on students, will be released tomorrow, 22 September 2011.
