Urban Quest winner shows Darwin High how it’s done at launch

16 February 2012

Urban-Quest-2011-winner-Tevita-160Urban Quest 2011 winner Tevita Moala launched Mission Australia’s celebration of music, talent and community on Monday on the very familiar territory of Darwin High School.

Now in Year 12 at Darwin High, Tevita helped Mission Australia staff spread the message about this year’s singing competition by performing at assembly.

Mission Australia’s Youth Connections Services Manager Jenny Dobson then encouraged students and teachers to get involved in Urban Quest 2012, which is promising to be bigger and better than the
inaugural competition.

She said that Urban Quest is much more than a singing competition, but also an opportunity for young Territorians to build self-esteem and confidence.

Mission Australia Youth Support Worker Kellie Streeter, who was at the launch, said plenty of excitement is already building around
Urban Quest.

“The students were really excited. We printed off loads of brochures and every single one of them were snapped up. The kids were coming over to us for copies, we didn’t have to seek them out. There was a strong vibe around it.

Later that day in Alice Springs, Mission Australia’s Program Coordinator Bryce Lillico and Jacinta launched Urban Quest 2012 at the Centralian Senior College.

Today performer Jianynne Anastacio is helping Mission Australia launch Urban Quest 2012 at Katherine High School.  Urban Quest heats will be held in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs in late February and March.

The top performers will then go through to the 13 April semi-final at Darwin’s Casuarina Square and Alice Springs Youth Hub on 10 March. The semi-finals also kick off Youth Week 2012.

The cream of the crop will take to the Darwin Entertainment Centre stage on 15 April to impress our star judges – Mark ‘Touchdown’ Holden, soulful Deni Hines and country singer-songwriter Paul Costa (who is a Mission Australia Ambassador).

Get involved!
