In 2009 Mission Australia conducted its eighth annual National Survey of Young Australians. The survey asked young people aged 11 to 24 years about what they value, their concerns, where they go for advice and support and who they admire. Around 48,000 young Australians from a range of backgrounds participated. Just over half were aged between 11 and 14, nearly 47% were aged between 15 and 19 and a small proportion (2.1%) were young adults aged 20 to 24. Justover half the respondents (52.4%) were female, 5.0% of all participants identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 14.4% spoke a language other than English at home. 56.4% lived in capital cities while the rest lived in regional and rural areas. | |
