Shell Cove centre philosophy
The philosophy of Shell Cove ELS has been developed to reflect the aspirations of parents, staff members and the organisation. It is based on the belief that parents and staff are able to work together to provide the best foundation possible for the growth of every child. We recognise that in early childhood environments, education, nurture and care are important in children's development and help build the foundation skills they will need to reach their potential throughout their life.
Our emphasis is to form close partnerships with families and the wider community. We will endeavour to create an open, honest and respectful partnership with families and the community, which are inclusive and value diversity. Families are encouraged to share their culture, language and home experiences with and within the service. Parents are welcome to share in the decision making in all areas of the learning centre.
We endeavour to deliver a quality curriculum to all children by investing in well qualified and highly trained staff. This is essential to achieve a learning approach that strives to reflect the Early Years Learning Framework. Our philosophy will assist staff in creating each and every program. We believe that children learn best in a natural environment which is inviting, interesting and engaging and where they feel safe and happy.
Our curriculum borrows from the practises of Reggio Emilia and endeavours to reflect a child centred approach to learning. We ensure that each child is given the opportunity to explore, question and be curious about learning and making discoveries about new things.
We believe that learning experiences should be lead by listening to children and providing open ended and engaging activities. Children from birth are competent, capable and active contributors to their own and other's learning. As each child grows and their uniqueness is discovered, staff will foster and promote through discovery, exploration, investigation and imagination.
Our primary carers help to establish a caring place where children feel comfortable and assist children to be exposed to a wide range of experiences that positively support their identity, self esteem, creativity and critical thinking. As primary carers we understand that developmental environments and facilitating relationships with children which support, empower and inspire their quest for knowledge is an essential part of our role.
Our doors are always open and we welcome everyone's participation in creating a community for learning.
"To teach is to feel… that not all the hurts of those in our care can be healed, but they can be soothed. To teach is to inspire… those who never thought they could be inspired. To teach is to know.. that every tiny drop in the pool of learning will be reflected tenfold for years to come" - Mary Shaughnessy.
