About our centre director, Denise Armstrong:

Where did you come from?
I have been in the childcare profession for twelve years starting as an untrained assistant. I completed my Diploma of Children's Services through a traineeship. Before beginning with Mission Australia I worked at a private centre as a director for two and a half years and prior to that was working as a Room Leader and have had the privilege of educating all age groups of children.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Seeing the expressions on children's faces when they have completed a task that was challenging for them - it is priceless; the responsibility that has been given to me as Director; and, no day ever being the same.

What do you feel is unique about your centre?
The multiculturalism of our families and staff is something that we are very proud of and thankful for.

What is your own early years learning philosophy?
Children and families should be greeted in a warm and friendly manner. Children should feel safe and secure with their individual needs met irrespective of background, culture or religion and families should feel reassured that their children will be educated and cared for while their children are here. The environment should be play-based allowing the children to explore, extend development, make choices and feel valued as an individual. Staff should have the opportunity for professional development to further enhance their skills.

springvale2Springvale centre philosophy:

Come and see our brand new discovery garden - it is a wonderful place for children to have fun whilst learning in a natural environment!

We believe that early childhood is a crucial time in the development of each individual. For this reason we will work in partnership with children and their families to ensure the best possible start in life.

We provide a nurturing environment where each child has the opportunity to learn within the context of caring relationships with carers. Our educators will establish and foster learning partnerships with children and their parents.

We will provide a learning environment that is safe, secure and well maintained. Our environment is inclusive and reflects value and respect for the diversity of children's backgrounds and the communities in which they live.

Our learning framework will be based on best practice and principles of accountability. We will collaborate with children, their families and the community to plan, develop, implement and continually improve a high quality curriculum.

We recognise and promote play based learning in which children are able to express their ideas and engage in exploration, imagination, experimentation and creativity.

We recognise that each child's learning pathway takes place within the context of their family and community. For this reason we will promote partnerships with parents and community services in an integrated service model that ensures families are supported to meet the needs of their children.
