Bateau Bay centre philosophy:

Our philosophy has been developed in partnership with children, families and staff. It is based on the belief that children learn best in an environment rich with choice.

Our centre aims to develop children's independence, respect and sense of ownership for their environment.

We believe in the Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood which is "the physical environment is an 'educator' in its own right."

We believe:

  • Families are our partners in learning and are welcome to participate, and visit our service at any time.
  • In open and respectful communication with our families, and encourage suggestions to improve our service.
  • That sharing information with families is beneficial to children's overall development and wellbeing.
  • That quality in Early Childhood services involves an environment that meets the needs of children, parents, staff and the community whilst recognising the uniqueness and significance of all involved. We acknowledge and respect the many differing social and cultural backgrounds within our families.
  • That children are capable and resourceful, and are valued as active contributors in their learning. Educators facilitate by scaffolding their learning and exploration. The provision of school experiences are programmed and planned in a non structured way that respects children's choice to participate. That Early childhood Educators should work cooperatively with children, families and the wider community, providing assistance, guidance and family support.
  • In fostering children's self expression, we endeavour to support children's ability to recognise and accept their feelings and the feelings of others.
  • In promoting positive self esteem and high self worth to assist children to develop strong emotional intelligence to enable them to cope with life's challenges. We realise that every child is an individual and has unique needs. We embrace the rights of children to feel safe and secure in their environment and we endeavour to empower children to grow and learn.
  • In educators being reflective and committed to professional growth and development. We support a team approach. We recognise that a sense of humour is a valuable attribute in our work.
  • That children learn through play in a fun, stimulating and safe environment that includes provision for open ended learning.
