About our centre director, Jess Grundy:

Where did you come from?
When I left High School I went straight to TAFE to complete my Diploma in Children's Services. My first work placement was at ABC Hilton and I fell in the love with the centre instantly. When I wasn't at TAFE I was there working. When I graduated from TAFE I took on the Qualified Caregivers role in the Toddlers room. From there I became 2IC of the centre and stepped up into the Acting Director role when my Director was on leave. In 2009 I became the Centre Director of Mission Australia Early Learning Services Hilton when we were taken over by Mission Australia. Seven years later I am still at the same centre, it is a second home to me.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Seeing the difference we make to children and families lives everyday. Not to mention all the cuddles!

What do you feel is unique about your centre?
Hilton is a beautiful centre with a small, dedicated staffing group who have stuck together for nearly 2 years. You feel instantly welcome in the centre by everyone and it has a very warm and friendly vibe.

What is your own early years learning philosophy?
Children learn best through play and I believe that every child has the right to learn, grow and develop in a safe, warm and nurturing environment. The best way we can achieve this is through providing High Quality Child Care, with dedicated, qualified staff.

Hilton centre philosophy:

boronia2We believe that early childhood is a crucial time in the development of each individual. For this reason we will work in partnership with children and their families to ensure the best possible start in life.

We provide a nurturing environment where each child has the opportunity to learn within the context of caring relationships with carers. Our educators will establish and foster learning partnerships with children and their parents.

We will provide a learning environment that is safe, secure and well maintained. Our environment is inclusive and reflects value and respect for the diversity of children's backgrounds and the communities in which they live.

Our learning framework will be based on best practice and principles of accountability. We will collaborate with children, their families and the community to plan, develop, implement and continually improve a high quality curriculum.

We recognise and promote play based learning in which children are able to express their ideas and engage in exploration, imagination, experimentation and creativity.

We recognise that each child's learning pathway takes place within the context of their family and community. For this reason we will promote partnerships with parents and community services in an integrated service model that ensures families are supported to meet the needs of their children.
