Judy came from the school of thought that her problems were her own, and she was solely responsible for dealing with them… which is what she struggled to do, day-in, day-out for the last few years. Sadly and unexpectedly, her partner left her. With no family or friends to turn to, Judy was on her own. She could no longer afford to cover the rent on her own, so left what little she had behind in search of somewhere else to live. It wasn’t easy. For the next six months, Judy spent many nights under bridges and in abandoned buildings as she battled to find somewhere safe to lay her head. It was during this time that Judy’s anxiety took hold and she turned to alcohol to numb her reality. For Judy this was disastrous, as her alcohol addiction had been under control for the past 18 months. The loss of her partner started a downward spiral for Judy, leaving her homeless, battling with increased anxiety and stress, and alcohol dependent again. Thankfully she realised she could no longer battle this on her own. When Judy finally asked for help late last year, it was obvious that this strong independent woman had all but given up. Our Mission Australia team rallied around Judy and found stable accommodation for her to stay in while she worked to overcome her anxiety and alcohol dependence, and really deal with the trauma of her broken relationship. Today Judy is still battling, but we are there with her, giving her all the support she needs to reclaim her life. With rehabilitation, counselling and perseverance, there is hope for Judy and Australians in similar situations. Help people like Judy with a donation today.
