How we acquire talent and give you every opportunity to ensure our organisation is the perfect fit for you!

At Mission Australia we aspire to give you every opportunity to learn about the role you are applying for; our rich Christian history; our values and culture.  We’ll endeavour to give you access to as much information as we have to help you in deciding if working for us is right for you.

You can find information about Mission Australia at our About Us page.  Information about the role you are expressing interest in can be found in the position description attached to each advertisement.

Should I provide my general resume/CV?

Having read the position description we have provided as part of our advertisement you’ll be well placed to tailor your resume to highlight your experiences against what we need.

The more targeted and specific you are in your application about how your work experience and qualifications are a fit for our role the more informed we will be in our decision making.

What are Mission Australia’s talent acquisition stages?

The way in which we provide information to you and also gain information about you and your aspirations may differ slightly depending upon the role.  Broadly speaking our talent acquisition stages look like this:
1.    Assessment of your resume and cover letter
A Candidate Developer from Mission Australia’s Talent Acquisition Team will review the information you have submitted to our e-recruitment system.  They’ll read your e-application and in particular your responses to any questions we may have asked you to respond to.  They’ll review your CV/resume and consider your background in light of the position requirements and the brief our hiring managers have given.

2.    Telephone interview
Once our Candidate Developers have read the information you have provided to us they’ll decide whether or not to progress your application.  If they decide to progress your application they will contact you and make a time to undertake a phone screen with you.

During this phone screen they’ll ask you any questions they have regarding either your responses to questions we may have asked on the e-application form or your CV.

Having clarified these questions they’ll then talk to you more about the role and answer any questions you may like to ask them.  Be sure to ask as many questions as you need to as you clarify your understanding of the position.  We want you to be as informed as possible about the role and how this role contributes to the work of Mission Australia.

Once we have undertaken all the phone screens you’ll be contacted again regarding our interest in progressing discussions with you further.

3.    Face to face interview
If you are invited to attend an interview you’ll meet the person to whom this position reports and perhaps another member of that team.  Our interviews are behavioral in nature.  This means we’ll ask you to describe how you have undertaken or managed a situation in the past.  We’ll be looking to understand the situation, what actions you took and what the outcome was.  Be as descriptive as you can about what you are telling us ensuring you answer our question.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask the hiring manager any questions you have about the role and our working environment.  Be sure to gain as much information as you can from them to help you decide if this role and our organisation are right for you.

Sometimes we will call you back for another interview to meet more of our team members or other people from our organisation.

4.    Assessments
For some roles, you may be asked to undertake an assessment. Most of our assessments are on-line and they are designed to provide us with additional information about you.

5.    Background check
Before we make you an offer of employment we will ask you for details of referees we can contact.  The people you nominate as referees should be those people you’ve previously reported to.  Friends, colleagues and associates are not suitable to be used as referees.

Please ensure your referees are aware that we will be calling them.  Its useful if you send them a copy of the position description and tell them about the role you are applying for.  In this way they can be well prepared to answer our questions on your background and experience.

Some of our roles will require you to agree to a Criminal Record check or Working with Children record check.  We’ll let you know during the recruitment process if this is required.

6.    Offer
If you are the successful candidate, we’ll contact you to discuss and agree the conditions under which we shall engage you.  We’ll agree a commencement date and remuneration.

Once we have agreed the details of our offer we’ll then prepare an offer of employment for you.  If you have any questions about our offer you’ll be able to discuss this with your new Manager.

All offers of employment Mission Australia make to you will be in writing on our letter head.

What happens if I’m not the successful candidate?

If you’ve attended an interview with us we’ll contact you and let you know why we are not progressing further with your application.  We’ll suggest you register for “job alerts” so you can keep an eye on other vacancies doing the type of work you like.  We may talk to you about our talent pools and other upcoming positions we are aware of.

We acknowledge the time it takes to prepare and submit an application to us.  We acknowledge all applications received for roles that come through our e-recruitment system.
