Mission Australia’s Angela Power, Service Manager for Mt Druitt Communities for Children (C4C), says the revamped building incorporates a new play room with an interconnected meeting room and a safe, outdoor play area. “This will allow us to provide things like parenting courses while the children can be looked after with onsite child care,” Ms Power said. “This space – where parents can participate in a range of workshops without having to worry about who will look after the kids or finding a babysitter – is one of a few in the Mt Druitt area.” The new play room and outdoor play area will also allow C4C to hold Play Groups. The launch will provide an opportunity for local families and service providers to see the new facilities and to hear about the programs C4C provides in Mt Druitt. Activities for kids will be offered during the launch including balloon art, face painting and puppet making. There will be a kids’ book giveaway as well as the appearance of Rooby Roo, the Reading Kangaroo and ambassador of C4C Mt Druitt’s reading program, Paint the Town REaD. The ribbon cutting for the new facilities will be carried out by Julie Collins, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Community Services and Richard Amery, State MP for Mt Druitt. Mt Druitt C4C is funded by the Federal Government’s Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. The refurbished building facilities and new playground were funded by the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program.
