Overcoming rural homelessness |

Media coverage - Prime News, 19 August 2011Mission Australia’s Central and Far Western Community Services Manager, Luke Butcher, recently spoke to Prime Seven News about the success of the Homelessness Action Plan (HAP) in Bathurst, New South Wales. HAP was implemented in response to the significant number of single men presenting to services who were homeless – or at risk of being homeless. And Aboriginal men are over-represented in the area’s homeless count. Luke Butcher said homelessness is every bit as prevalent in the country as in large cities, with more than 1,400 people in the region sleeping rough each night. In less than six months this service has helped to get more than 30 people off the streets. Watch the Prime Seven News report here Further reading: |
