Around 40 children and their parents from the Inala-Ipswich region will be embarking on a road trip to Robelle Domain Park at Springfield Lakes, for a day of face painting, games and water play at the new community parklands. Communities for Children Service Manager Jenny Chaves said the outing is about ensuring local kids have “a right to play” – which is the key theme of this year’s National Children’s Week. “Everyday, we work with children and families that are doing it tough,” Ms Chaves said. “Many kids don’t have access to some of the basics in life, and for some their family situation can be difficult. “At Mission Australia, we want all kids to have a healthy and happy childhood. “As the nation celebrates Children’s Week, we want to provide a fun activity for our local families focused on the right of children to play. “Robelle Domain Park is a great new community space, with great play equipment, water fountains and parkland where the kids can run around and just enjoy being children. “We’ve charted a coach and will be taking the kids and their parents out to the park for a morning of fun and laughter. “Everyone is bringing along a plate – it’ll be a great day for sharing and playing together as we celebrate the children in our community.” Mission Australia’s Communities for Children program is a federally funded initiative through the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, focusing on early intervention and prevention. Through this initiative, Mission Australia coordinates programs and services across schools, early childhood centres, playgroups and service providers, to connect families, schools and communities together.
