Suit appeal for victims of bushfires now closed

PDF Print E-mail
13 Feb 2009
blog-suitMission Australia’s appeal to collect suits and dresses for victims of the devastating Victorian bushfires has come to a close.

For two days Mission Australia has invited Melbournians to donate their formal attire so that families who have lost relatives and their homes, can attend funerals appropriately
dressed.

“We are absolutely astounded by the response from the community and retail businesses to our call for help,” said Paul Bird, Mission Australia State Director.

“In these two days we have received in excess of 1,300 suits and dresses.”

“It can only be described as a continuation of the outpouring of generosity from the Victorian community in response to the bushfires that have ravaged much of the state over the past week.”

“We are grateful for the generous donations from Flair Industries, Myer, Cambridge Country Clothing and Studio Italia who donated brand new suits to the appeal, but it was the unprecedented response from the community that was really something to behold.”

“Thank you to those that generously gave and please know that these items will be much appreciated by the families affected by the fires.”

Due to the overwhelming response, Mission Australia is no longer able to accept donations of suits or dresses.

Mission Australia is distributing the donated items to communities in Wallan and Whittlesea.
