One of Tasmania’s leading community service organisations, Mission Australia, is opening a new office in Launceston.

The centre will offer a variety of services relating to employment, training and youth initiatives to assist people to pursue a positive and independent future.

Mission Australia’s State Director Noel Mundy said the new office will assist in providing much needed services to the Launceston community.

“Our aim is to provide long term programmes that help jobseekers into work and provide employers with quality trained staff,” he said

“We work with communities across the State to assist in building resilience and equipping individuals to play an active role in their community.

“The new office will specifically focus on employment initiatives such as Community Work/Work for the Dole, Jobs Placement Employment and Training and Jobs Capacity Assessment as well as training initiatives such as the Language, Literacy & Numeracy Programme (LLNP) and youth initiatives.”

Mr Mundy said the office will also provide personal helpers and mentors for those in the local community suffering from mental illness.

“These helpers and mentors give disadvantaged people the hand up that they need,” he said

“It allows them to better manage their daily lives and access the services available to them.”

Mission Australia has almost 320 services across every state and territory in Australia investing in people and communities in need for the long term.

The office will be officially opened between 3.30pm – 5pm TONIGHT on the first floor of 111 St. John Street and will be attended by Michael Ferguson MP, Federal Member for Bass.
