Leading South Australian energy company, The Australian Gas Light Company (AGL) will invite its staff to come together over a bowl of soup to raise money for Mission Australia and its work with homeless people in the State.

Staff at AGL’s Eastwood office (226 Greenhill Road, Eastwood) will put their energy behind the cause by holding a Soup Kitchen tomorrow (Friday 18th August), where staff will sell soup and fresh bread rolls to their colleagues from 12noon.

AGL General Manager South Australia, Sandy Canale, said that as well as raising funds for Mission Australia, AGL hopes that the Soup Kitchen will help to create awareness about homelessness, the issue at the centre of the Company’s community investment program, Energy for Life.

“We recognise that people experiencing homelessness do not normally enjoy the home comforts of AGL’s products and services. Through the Soup Kitchens, we can generate staff awareness about the plight of more than 7,500 South Australians who experience homelessness each night," Mr Canale said.

The Campbell's Soup Company Australia has donated and shipped 3,000 units of microwaveable soup to AGL offices across Australia to help the cause.

“This is the second year that Campbell’s has worked with us for this very worthy cause and we appreciate their contribution,” Mr Canale said.

Money raised at the Eastwood Soup Kitchen will go towards Mission Australia’s work assisting people experiencing homelessness and other disadvantaged groups.

“AGL is a close partner of Mission Australia’s and we welcome the commitment and contribution of its staff. We also appreciate Campbell’s Soup’s generous donation,” Mission Australia State Manager Mark Herselman said.

This is the third year AGL has thrown its support behind Mission Australia's campaign to raise awareness of and funds for the homeless.

AGL has also provided support to Mission Australia through employee volunteering and through the Company’s Warmth in Winter program. Through Warmth in Winter, AGL helps to pay the winter energy bills and provides energy efficiency solutions for overnight crisis and emergency accommodation facilities for people experiencing homelessness.
