 At the annual Mission Australia New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) graduation ceremony last night 84 Tasmanians came closer to realising their business dreams when they were awarded with a Certificate IV in Small Business Management.Mission Australia’s State Director Noel Mundy said the NEIS program, which is funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, is designed to assist eligible jobseekers set up and run their own business, giving them the skills to become successful small business owners... “Not only does the program give Tasmanians in need a helping hand but it also gives them the skills and confidence to operate a small business,” Mr Mundy said. “A wide variety of small businesses were developed through the course, ranging from river boat tours and soap making to barefoot horse trimming and landscape gardening and maintenance. “Other business concepts included computer repairs, web page design, freight services and a travel consultancy. “In Northern Tasmania alone, 120 Tasmanians graduate from the NEIS program each year.” Mission Australia’s North West and Northern Businesses of the Year Award were also presented at the graduation ceremony, going to NEIS participants Kathryn Bramich of Latrobe for her successful Café Zeta and Martin Hornibrook of Cornwall for his successful Cornwall Collectables shop. The businesses of the year were selected under a number of categories, including the overall business idea, business growth, adherence to NEIS principles and value adding to the community. Jodi Campbell, Federal Labor Member for Bass presented the Awards at last night’s event, held at the Tailrace Centre in Riverside, to celebrate the future business owners of Tasmania. Mission Australia has almost 280 services across every state and territory in Australia and has five offices in Tasmania, located in Burnie, Launceston, Hobart, Moonah and Devonport.
