Pathways to strong families and healthy, happy children:

Pathways to Prevention, Miller

Pathways is an early intervention program for young children and their families. The project promotes healthy development, positive relationships and strong communities. Miller Pathways, located in South Western Sydney, provides supported playgroups, nutrition programs and a family resource centre.

Brighter Futures

Brighter Futures is a voluntary, targeted program designed for families encountering problems that impact on their ability to care for their children. The program provides families with the necessary support and services to help prevent an escalation of the problems they are facing. The program recognises that supporting families before problems turn into a crisis improves family resilience, promotes healthy child development, and reduces child abuse and neglect.

Pathways through a successful youth:

Creative Youth Initiatives

Creative Youth Initiatives, in Sydney’s inner city, provides free creative programs for young people aged 16 - 25 who are facing many and varied challenges in their lives, such as homelessness, mental health issues or family breakdown. With support from musicians, artists and social workers, students are develop a broad range of skills and use creativity as an outlet for the issues they face.

Dubbo Leadership and Cultural Development Program

Dubbo Leadership and Cultural Development Program assists young Aboriginal students to stay in school, gain leadership skills and culture awareness.

The program supports Aboriginal students by providing:

  • Weekly after school sessions that are educational, vocational, cultural and fun
  • Links to community support services
  • Assistance with family mediation and support if needed
  • Connections to Aboriginal elders and mentors
  • Support with school work
  • Assistance for parents to liaise with schools
  • Assistance for students in the event of suspension
  • Cultural camps during the school holidays

Triple Care Farm (TCF)

Triple Care Farm (TCF) is a residential, treatment and vocational training program in the southern highlands of NSW for young people aged 16-24 with complex backgrounds. Triple Care Farm provides residential living skills, counselling and vocational training programs such as metalwork, woodwork and farming. Sports and recreation activities are also available at the farm. The service includes a post support program “Stepping Out” which ensures that the young person and their family continue to receive help and support after they have left Triple Care Farm.

Pathways away from homelessness:

Mission Australia Centre

The Mission Australia Centre in central Sydney aims to break the cycle of homelessness. The service provides varying levels of intervention through flexible, innovative responsive services, programs and support options with a particular focus on indigenous homelessness.

This groundbreaking centre is the first of its kind in Australia and provides a bridge to greater social and economic participation. Specialised staff and volunteers are committed to tackling the real problems faced by individuals - not just the symptoms. The non-institutionalised environment aims to prevent the stigmatisation felt by homeless and marginalised people in the past and prevent the ‘revolving door’ syndrome. It offers a range of services including accommodation, learning and education.

Housing and Support Initiative

The Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) is an innovative partnership between NSW Health, Housing NSW and community services organisations, including Mission Australia. It provides accommodation and support services for people with a moderate or high level of psychiatric disorder. Mission Australia provides HASI in North Sydney, North Coast, Dubbo and Coonabrabran.

Charles Chambers Court

Charles Chambers Court, located in Sydney’s inner city, is a fully accredited aged care facility. It provides high quality accommodation and personal care for homeless, frail or aged people. It enables the residents to lead an independent lifestyle. The service provides modern, stable and secure accommodation for elderly people, who have been living on the street and moving through crisis accommodation. It gives relief from the homeless circuit.

Missionbeat:

Missionbeat patrols Inner Sydney streets, seeking those in distress and need. They are taken to services where their immediate needs can be met, such as safe accommodation, food, clothing and the option to access other intervention support services.

Missionbeat transports homeless men, women, children, families and intoxicated or drug affected men and women.

It also responds to public calls for help and calls from police, ambulance, community services and government departments.

Missionbeat works in close collaboration with other services including both government and non-government agencies, to help break the cycle of homelessness.

It supports those most disadvantaged in our community, giving them a chance to access appropriate services to regain a sense of hope.

Committed and dedicated staff meet individuals and families at their greatest point of need, offering hope, support and encouragement.

Missionbeat is an important link in a holistic approach to meeting the needs of homeless and disadvantaged people. The service operates from 7am-11pm, seven days a week. Last year, Missionbeat helped around 16,000 individuals.
