African Pathways volunteer program
Getting To Work Youth Mentor - Dandenong
Mission Australia’s Getting To Work is a new program that will actively assist and support newly arrived, refugee and migrant young people from the City of Greater Dandenong to gain employment. The program will assist these young people to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to secure employment through a process of assessment, workshops certificate II retail training and work experience. Key to supporting young people to reach their potential will be the role of the mentor, who will support the young person to help them develop the confidence they need to get on track for success. Volunteer Commitment: 1 hour per week for a minimum of 6 months Volunteer Requirements: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, cultural awareness or a desire to attain cultural awareness of specific group a strong understanding of self-development processes to help others achieve personal growth, an ability to relate to young people, and an ongoing commitment to the program. All volunteers will receive training and support throughout the 6 month program. Mission Australia has a long history of helping those in need. Our vital work, helping the most disadvantaged people in our community, could not function without the support of our volunteers. Volunteer role: We are looking for a great team player assist us with Reception and other office duties. You will be required to provide front of house reception and telephone duties, including transferring calls, taking messages and providing verbal assistance to Mission Australia clients. Where: Mission Australia, Footscray When: Hours are negotiable Essential Criteria: You must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access; have excellent communication skills; and previous administrative experience. Your initiative and enthusiastic nature would be much valued. This is a great chance to get some office experience or to use your administrative skills to assist the disadvantaged.
