Youth Beat Support Worker

Would you like to make a difference in  the lives of young people? Join Mission Australia’s Youth Beat Service

  • Mission Australia, Youth Beat, Hobart
  • Weekend nights, 4 hour shifts
  • Help youth get their lives back on track!

If you have a desire to help people rise above the challenges life has thrown their way, then you already have something in common with Mission Australia, who’s work helps disadvantaged Australians everyday.

We are seeking committed and outgoing people to volunteer for the Youth Beat service, which operates throughout Hobart. Youth Beat is a mobile service, which engages with disadvantaged and homeless young people, providing them with support, someone to talk to and referrals to other services.

As a Youth Beat volunteer, you will be responsible for assisting Youth Beat clients, by providing information on available services and developing supportive and trusting relationships with youth who may have nowhere else to turn. You will be part of a team, working with a Youth Beat staff member at all times.

The service operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday evenings/nights, and volunteers will be required to commit to at least one 4 hour shift. Hours may vary dependant upon need.

Experience Required:

  • Great communication skills
  • Ability to relate well to young people from a range of backgrounds
  • Ability to follow directions from Youth Beat Staff
  • Flexible availability
  • Some background in Youth Work or Community Welfare would be beneficial, but not essential
  • All volunteers will receive full training and support.
