Nightspot Driver - Logan

Mission Australia’s Nightspot Youth Homelessness Program in Logan (Brisbane) is urgently seeking applications for volunteer Drivers. Nightspot is an emergency accommodation model that allows low-risk, vulnerable youth to stay in the homes of trained volunteers in the community for 1-7 nights, in order to have some ‘time out’ in a safe environment. All volunteering is done on a flexible roster basis, which is elected by the volunteer and designed to suit their lifestyle.

What is required of Drivers?
  • A desire to help young people
  • A willingness to complete required training (approx two hours)
  • A reliable, insured vehicle (all petrol is reimbursed)
  • A commitment to a roster for a minimum of two hours per month
  • Preferably live within Logan region (or close by)
  • All applicants will undergo Standard Police Certificate and Blue Card checks in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999.

Volunteer Drivers are trained in risk assessment and relevant youth-related issues, as one of their roles is to ensure that the young person is not under the influence of drugs, alcohol and/or inhalants at the time of pick up. An ‘instinctual’ feel for young people would be an asset in this role.

One night really can make a difference: “I rang my Dad today and he sounded actually proud of me...that’s the only time ever in my life!” - A young client after one night with Nightspot.
