Mission Australia is dedicated to closing the gap in living standards between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians.

One way of doing this is by providing opportunities to help Aboriginal job seekers to get a start in the workforce.

We currently run an indigenous employment program (IEPs) in VTEC Brisbane. Each of the programs is funded by the Australian Government and relies on local partnerships. They aim to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are assisted into jobs as part of a supportive team.

Our IEPs offer targeted job search assistance, access to training, education programs and inspiring role models, and an encouraging environment.

Mission Australia also helps Indigenous job seekers to prepare for job interviews and provides work experience opportunities as well as workplace familiarisation and induction support. Participants can also receive workplace mentoring and post-placement support from mentors, including successful Aboriginal sports and businesspeople.

Through our IEPs Mission Australia can provide employers with cultural awareness training, where necessary, so they have a good understanding of Aboriginal people and their values.
