Help bring back some joy this Christmas
It’s difficult to make your children’s Christmas wishes come true when you are homeless. Donate now to help the 17,845# children who are experiencing homelessness across Australia.
Last November, Sophie* and her husband James were forced to put their children’s Christmas on hold.
The family’s business failed and with mounting debts, Sophie, James and their two children, 7-year-old Rosie and 5-year-old Billy were evicted from their home. Faced with one impossible choice after another, they decided to relocate so they could stay temporarily with James’ elderly parents. Just before they arrived, James’ father became ill and their accommodation plans fell through. In desperation, Sophie turned to Mission Australia for help.
The local Mission Australia women’s shelter didn’t accept men, so the couple had to make a tough decision. Sophie, Rosie and Billy would stay there; James would carry on sleeping in the car with the family dog.
Along with temporary accommodation and practical support, we assisted them with their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. With our support, Sophie and James were able to find a permanent home. We continue to work with the family, helping them to re-establish their own business so they can regain their independence.
The family can’t wait for Christmas Day this year. Finally, the children can share their happiness with all the people they love. Please donate today so we can continue to support other families experiencing homeless.
