Finding a place where people care

Before 19-year-old Saran arrived at our youth refuge, she faced a frightening reality. She had nowhere safe to go and no one to lean on.

Thrown onto the streets, alone and without any of her belongings - including her identification cards - Saran knocked on the doors of a Mission Australia youth refuge.

It was really scary not knowing where to go or what to do." -Saran, 19.

Our teams provided Saran with the support she needed including access to essential items, healthy meals, counselling and medical care. Saran applied for new identification cards and secured a safe and permanent place to call home.

It wasn’t an easy journey but with faith, grit and perseverance, Saran is now leading an independent and thriving life.

With your help, we can reach more vulnerable young people like Saran.

Breaking the cycle of homelessness

Did you know that in 2020-21, around 41,700 young people were alone when they requested help from homelessness services like Mission Australia?^

With your support, our teams can continue to provide vulnerable young people with the guidance and support they need to break the cycle of homelessness and learn to thrive.

When young people arrive at our service, they are in quite a bad state. We provide the guidance and assistance they need to become independent – it's amazing to witness young people working extremely hard to transform their lives.” - Lucy, Mission Australia.
