Partnering to bring more safe and secure homes to Victorians in need
Mission Australia is partnering with Citta Property Group, Housing Australia and Homes Victoria to deliver 133 new social housing apartments in South Melbourne.
Mission Australia and Citta have been confirmed as Homes Victoria's strategic partner for the South Melbourne Walk Up Redevelopment project, operating as the Thrive Living Communities consortium.
The project, on the corner of Dorcas and Moray Streets in South Melbourne, is the first stage in renewing the South Melbourne housing precinct. It will deliver 133 social housing apartments, community facilities and extensive landscaped open space, as well as ground floor retail/commercial space.
The project is jointly funded by the Victorian Government, the Federal Government's Housing Australia Future Fund, and Citta, and will more than double the number of social homes previously on the land.
Community housing provider Mission Australia Housing (Victoria) will manage the units and working with residents to deliver the supports and services they need to thrive in their new homes.
Responding to the need for truly affordable housing
Mission Australia CEO Sharon Callister said, “Mission Australia is proud to be helping deliver more safe and secure homes for the Victorians who need them most.
With people across the country struggling with rising rents and cost of living pressures, we need to be building more social housing like this to meet the need in the community for truly affordable homes.
“Mission Australia is committed to being part of the solution as we look to double our community housing portfolio to 10,000 social and affordable homes nationally by 2030 as part of our Strategy 2030.”
Citta Managing Director Stephen McMillan said: “We’re proud to be working with the Victorian Government and Mission Australia on this important development to deliver much-needed new social housing to Victorians.”
“We will leverage our deep experience in social housing precincts to create a well-designed neighbourhood, with high-quality homes, welcoming shared spaces and landscaped public areas.”
Construction of the South Melbourne Walk Up Redevelopment is anticipated to commence in early 2027 with completion scheduled in 2029.
