New SA services to assist 30,000 with disability
Mission Australia has been awarded a significant government contract to deliver National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), Local Area Coordination (LAC) services in six regions across South Australia.
A government investment of more than $47 million will see Mission Australia deliver services for approximately 30,000 people with disability in South Australia from March 2018 until mid-2021.
What is Local Area Coordination?
Local Area Coordination (LAC) services link people with disability to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as well as connecting them to the appropriate supports in their community. The NDIS helps people with disability to develop a plan that meets their needs and guides them through their options for putting their plan into action. LAC also involves engaging local organisations and businesses to create a more inclusive community for people with disability.
The LAC services will be delivered in the following areas in SA:
- Southern Adelaide
- Limestone Coast
- Murray and Mallee
- Eyre and West Far North
- Adelaide Hills
- Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island.
SA/Tas/Vic State Director Noel Mundy says the new contract is an affirmation of Mission Australia’s expertise in the disability area and the effectiveness of our work in local communities.
"This is an amazing opportunity to build Mission Australia's footprint in South Australia and deliver transformational services to people with disability, their families, carers and local communities," Noel said.
It's anticipated that more than 100 staff will be recruited to work across the six regions. Former Program Manager at Mission Australia's Hindmarsh site, Georgii Snowball, has taken on the role of Regional Leader NDIS to lead the implementation and ongoing service delivery.
"In light of this announcement, we're also looking for skilled candidates to join us as we embark on one of the biggest changes in South Australian disability services in decades. There are a range of NDIS roles available and we're on the lookout for dynamic and professional teams to help us deliver effective and engaging support so people living with disability can easily navigate the NDIS," Noel said.
