What does Easter mean to you?

Easter means different things for people – for some, it’s an opportunity to spend time with loved ones but for others, Easter means much more. Easter is the epitome of the Christian faith, representing rebirth and renewal as we remember the death and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Easter means different things for people – for some, it’s an opportunity to spend time with loved ones but for others, Easter means much more. Easter is the epitome of the Christian faith, representing rebirth and renewal as we remember the death and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

This year, we are particularly concerned about the government’s intention to end the JobSeeker and JobKeeper payments. When the payments were introduced, we saw firsthand how it helped many vulnerable Australians.

Permanent reductions to these much-needed payments will put children and families at greater risk of homelessness. Our team are anticipating an escalation in financial stress and concern among the already vulnerable people we help.

These people are in desperate need of hope and restoration. In this edition of Thrive newsletter, you’ll read stories of life transformation – this is made possible through the generosity of people like you. On behalf of the vulnerable children and families you've supported this year, thank you! Ben Carblis, Executive Community, Children & Family Services.

Easter Reflection

The vulnerable people we serve at Mission Australia often feel stuck. Many of them live in the despair of ‘Easter Saturday’ every day.

In the Christian calendar, Easter Saturday is the day between death and life, despair and joy.

Easter Saturday follows Good Friday, where the greatest sacrifice of love was on display. It’s a day of grief and darkness when life feels stuck, and our hope is stalled.

But Easter Sunday is the day hope comes alive again.

When we love others generously and sacrificially like Jesus, people will discover the hope and joy of Easter Sunday. It’s our greatest privilege to point them to their own Easter Sunday moment.
