The Can we talk? Seven year youth mental health report - 2012-2018 is a Mission Australia and Black Dog Institute joint report. The infographic summarises important insights about the prevalence of psychological distress experienced by young people, where they go to for help and their main concerns.

This summary report details the findings from the more than 1,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who responded to the Mission Australia Youth Survey 2018. This year was the first time that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people identified mental health as the top issue in Australia.

Mission Australia’s Economic Disadvantage report uses data from the 2020 Youth Survey and compares the responses of young people without parent/s or guardian/s in paid work with those who reported at least one parent or guardian in paid work. The findings demonstrate the need for a whole-of-society response to improve the outcomes for young people.

This booklet includes key infographic summaries from the Youth Survey Report 2023. It provides an overview of the top national issues identified by young people and a summary of key challenges they have personally faced this year.

Mission Australia’s Young Voices of the Pandemic reports on the free-text responses provided by young people in the 2020 Youth Survey in answer to the question ‘In the past year, what is the biggest issue that you have been dealing with? What do you think needs to be done about it?’. This report seeks to amplify young people’s voices using their own words to provide a glimpse of how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted on young people’s experiences of education, isolation and mental health.

This sub-report compares Youth Survey response of young people living with or without disability. In 2019 over 25,000 young people responded to the Youth Survey and 1,623 reported living with disability.

Mission Australia’s Young people’s experiences of homelessness report released July 2020 reveals that 1 in 6 Youth Survey respondents had an experience of homelessness. The report compares those who have no experience of homelessness to those who have couch surfed and/or had an experience in transitional housing/living in a refuge.

This is another report that has been produced as a result of an ongoing partnership between Mission Australia and Orygen. The purpose of this report is to better understand the cohort of young people who are highly concerned about climate change, and the impact this concern has on their mental health and perceptions of the future. 

This report considers the similarities and differences between two groups of young people who took part in the Mission Australia Youth Survey 2018: those who reported that neither parent or guardian was currently in paid employment, compared with those who identified that at least one parent or guardian had paid employment, whether part- or full-time. The new report pinpoints stark differences between female and male responses to the Youth Survey 2018, highlighting that more females than males were concerned about almost every topic in the survey. This infographic details highlights from the findings.

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Report draws on the findings of our Youth Survey 2017. The survey captured the views, concerns, experiences and aspirations of 24,055 young people, 1,265 of whom identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

This infographic details the key findings and recommendations from Mission Australia’s Young Voices of the Pandemic report. Direct quotes provided by young people highlight how living through the early stages of the pandemic in Australia affected their experiences of education, isolation and mental health wellbeing.

This is the first report that has been produced as a result of an important partnership between Mission Australia and Orygen. The report looks into the types of impact experienced by young people during the pandemic, and the particular groups of young people who have faced more challenges. The report also details how the experience of different and multiple impacts relate to increases in stress, loneliness, and psychological distress, as well as decreases in feelings of control, happiness and mental health and wellbeing.
