The Junaa Buwa! Centre for Youth Wellbeing provides a safe place for change for young people who are clients of juvenile justice and whose established use of alcohol and other drugs places them at risk of significant harm. We provide holistic residential rehabilitation and treatment for 12 weeks followed by aftercare in communities for a 3 months.

Junaa Buwa! Centre for Youth Wellbeing is an intensive residential rehabilitation program staffed 24 hours a day in Coffs Harbour. Junaa Buwa! offers a stable and secure environment where Young People can make positive changes in a supportive, safe environment.

We assist young people to:
  • Manage problematic behaviours
  • Improve their life skills and interpersonal skills
  • Learn alternative habits to develop personal resilience and confidence
  • Build social networks
  • Reintegrate into the community with three months of aftercare support.
Client Criteria:
  • 13 through 18 years old, both male and female
  • Clients of Youth Justice NSW with a history of significant alcohol and other drug use and offending behaviour
  • May have a dual diagnosis and/or other medically supervised medication
  • Willing to participate in the program
  • All Junaa Buwa! clients participate in the Youth Justice X-Roads AOD Intervention Program
  • Referrals can only be received via Youth Justice NSW

Junaa Buwa! is strictly non-smoking, however we can support Young People to attend medical appointments and be prescribed nicotine replacement therapy and support.

Links to all essential Junaa Buwa! documents are at the base of this page. Please ensure that you and your clients have read and understood the attached relevant information before making a referral. Please email the completed referral form to jb@missionaustralia.com.au

Junaa Buwa! staff will contact you within 24 hours to confirm that they have received the referral. Staff may request additional information so that they can assess the suitability of the Young Person for the program. Junaa Buwa! Staff will then also undertake an assessment with the Young Person, which will take approximately 40 minutes over the phone or in person.

Please ensure that your Referral Form and Exit Plan are filled out completely, including all necessary attachments. The Exit Plan is necessary to provide details for a safe place for the Young Person for when they leave Junaa Buwa!

Who we assist

Junaa Buwa! assists Young People who are aged between 13 and 18 (inclusive) years, are clients of Youth Justice, NSW Department of Communities and Justice, who have a history of alcohol or other drug use and reside in NSW.

We assist Young People who are aged between 13 and 18 years (inclusive), are part of the Youth Justice, NSW Department of Communities and Justice, who have a history of alcohol or other drug use and are willing to participate in the program.

Referral process

We only receive referrals through Youth Justice.
