The Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) funded by the Dept. of Social Services (DSS) is an early intervention and prevention support service for children aged 0-18 years (and their families) who are at risk of, or experiencing, issues relating to mental health. Participants can access any FMHSS via self-referral, through other community support agencies, or at the suggestion of family or friends. Formal referrals are not required.

Who we assist

Children and young people (up to the age of 18 years) affected by, or at risk of mental illness, and their families.

Eligibility criteria

Participants must be children or young people affected by, or at risk of mental illness, and must have an adult family member willing and able to work with them and the Service.

Referral process

Potential participants are able to access any FMHSS through a broad range of entry pathways including self-referral, referral by friends and family or through other community services, such as schools. They do not require a formal referral from a community mental health or clinical service.
