Thank you for helping Laura regain her strength and independence.

Laura* was in a dark place after she and her three-year-old daughter, Karla*, were evicted from their home. Laura and Karla moved in with Laura’s mum temporarily. Laura knew it would be tough to find another rental with the severe shortage of affordable housing, but she didn’t realise she’d still be living with her mum after six months.

Losing hope

As time passed, Laura began to lose faith in herself. She wanted to live independently and be a role model for Karla. She just needed a little support to get back on her feet.

Reaching out for help

Laura took the first step by reaching out to Mission Australia, who put her in touch with a case worker named Jessica*. Jessica supported Laura through the process of applying for housing and organised vouchers so she could buy new clothes for herself and Karla.

Practical support when it mattered most

When Laura needed help with food and groceries, Jessica linked her with services that provided food hampers and additional vouchers. She also worked with Laura to create a budget to help her prepare for moving out of her mum’s place. After sending out lots of rental applications, Laura was overjoyed to find out she and Karla had been offered a NSW Housing property. Laura and Karla are now happily settled into their new home. And it couldn’t have happened without your support.

Thank you for helping to give Laura and her daughter the support they needed to get back on their feet.
