What should I do if I have a car accident?

By law, as the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident, you must stop immediately. Ensure you are out of the way of danger, and give assistance to any injured person. Call an ambulance on 000 if needed.

You must give your full name, address and registration number to other drivers, injured persons or owners of property, which may have been damaged in the accident. If you don’t own the vehicle, also give the name and address of the owner.

You must obtain the name, address and registration number of other vehicle/s and or owner/s. You should also try to obtain the names and addresses of any independent witnesses.

To ensure you have the correct details, you should write them down yourself. If possible, write them down from their driver’s licence and get their telephone number.

The law does not require that they give you their licence or telephone number. Make a note of the time, date and location of the accident and draw a plan of the scene.

You must report the accident to the police if;

  • A person has been injured or a fatality has occurred;
  • The other party fails to stop and/or supply their details
  • A driver appears to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs; or
  • There is a hazard that may cause danger to the public
  • Inform your insurance company as soon as possible.
Do I have the right to choose my repairer?

Every insurance company has their own requirements and generally they do allow you to select the repairer. Synergy is an authorised and preferred repairer for Suncorp Insurance and is qualified to repair all vehicle makes and models.

Will I have to pay an excess if I am not at fault?

If you have the details of the other party involved there is no reason why an excess should apply.

Can I get a quote for repair to my car over the phone?

The only way to get an accurate quote for vehicle damage is to assess the damage first hand. Contact your insurance company to arrange inspection and assessment.

How will I know when my car is ready?

Our staff from Synergy Repairs will call you to let you know as soon as your vehicle is ready for collection.

Is there a warranty on the repairs to my vehicle?

At Synergy Repairs we offer a lifetime guarantee on our work.

Who do I pay my insurance excess to?

The excess is paid to the repairer of your vehicle. If the excess applies it will need to be paid prior to or when you collect your vehicle.
