Overview
In October 2023, Mission Australia made a submission to the Federal Government on the development of a National Housing and Homelessness Plan. Our message is clear: Australia needs bold action to end homelessness and ensure everyone has access to a safe, stable and affordable home.
The submission highlights five core priorities:
- adopting a systems approach
- delivering affordable permanent housing
- boosting prevention measures
- maintaining crisis responses, and
- embedding accountability.
We also call for a $500 million Prevention Transformation Fund and one million new social and affordable homes over 20 years. This national plan is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a housing system that works for all Australians, and to make homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring
