Overview

Midtown represents a bold and innovative response to Australia’s housing and homelessness crisis. This evaluation examines the establishment, early implementation and first year of service delivery of Midtown’s integrated housing and support model.

Early evidence shows the model is working as intended, with strong outcomes across housing stability, wellbeing and community connection.

Why this matters

Midtown demonstrates how an integrated housing and support model can improve outcomes for residents, particularly in high-density mixed tenure communities.

As demand for housing grows, the findings highlight the importance of sustained investment, strong partnerships and coordinated support to achieve long-term impact.

Key findings

  • 99.8% of tenancies sustained, indicating strong housing stability
  • 87% of residents said their life improved since moving to Midtown
  • 91% satisfaction with housing quality, exceeding industry benchmarks
  • 1 in 10 residents transitioned to greater independence
  • 74% of residents identified Midtown as a strong and connected community

Key insight

Midtown was intentionally designed as more than a housing development. Strong partnerships, extensive planning and a relational, person-centred approach created early trust, stability and connection, enabling positive outcomes in the first year of operation.
