Mission Australia’s Cairns South Communities of Focus initiative is a place-based approach that aims to address local disadvantage by tackling problems in new ways, convene local community to understand the drivers of disadvantage and build up local leadership and decision making, builds skills, strengths and aspirations towards build cohesion, collaboration, and motivation; and work across funding and program boundaries to catalyze innovation and create positive change. Mission Australia works as the backbone to coordinate activity, develop a common vision, facilitate strategy, and build community capacity across 10 years so that Cairns South Together is able to continue to sustain collective action independent of Mission Australia.

Who we assist

Cairns South is an area of significant disadvantage and covers the suburbs of Earlville, Bayview Heights, Woree, White Rock, Mount Sheriden, Bentley Park, Edmonton, Wrights Creek, Mount Peter, and Gordonvale. Cairns South Together is focused specifically on babies in the first 1000 days and young people aged 8-14.
