Mission Australia is an NDIS Partner in the Community in various locations in Tasmania and South Australia, and from 1 July 2018 in New South Wales and Queensland. We help people with disability get the supports they need to live the life they want and be included in their community.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) allows Australians with a permanent and significant disability the freedom to choose the life they want to live. The scheme helps people with disability to access the supports right for them as well as assisting in building their skills to actively participate in their community.

The NDIS ensures peace of mind for families and carers – knowing their loved ones are given the support and capacity to lead an ordinary life on their terms.

NDIS Partner in the Community

Mission Australia is fully committed to our role as an NDIS Partner in the Community delivering the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) and/or the Local Area Coordination (LAC) services.

As part of this commitment we will deregister as an NDIS Provider.

We currently deliver services to people with mental illness and psychosocial disability across Australia under the Personal Helpers and Mentors (PHaMs) program funded by the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Partners in Recovery (PIR) program funded by the Federal Department of Health (DOH).

To meet our responsibilities to service users in those services, we will agree a Transition Plan with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), DSS and DOH that details how we work to a situation where consumers in those services who are or become NDIS Participants will be transferred to receive an appropriate level of support from a new Provider, recognising that there may be different transition timeframes in different geographies to ensure people with psychosocial disabilities are not disadvantaged.

LAC

Mission Australia is one of the local Partners in the Community in the delivery of the NDIS. We are delivering the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) and/or the Local Area Coordination (LAC) services in various locations across Tasmania and South Australia, and from 1 July 2018 in Queensland.

Local Area Coordinators work with people with disability and their families. The LAC can help you to understand and access the NDIS and link you to information and support in your community. LACs have three key roles:

  • Link you to the NDIS
  • Link you to information and support in the community, and
  • Work with your local community to make sure it is more welcoming and inclusive for people with disability.

If you are eligible for NDIS funded supports we can help you to: create your first plan; put your NDIS plan into action; and review your plan.

Mission Australia delivers LAC in:

  • Tasmania - South East and North West
  • South Australia - Limestone Coast, Murray and Mallee, Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island, Southern Adelaide and, Eyre Western and Far North Service Areas
  • From 1 July 2018 Queensland - Cairns

ECEI

ECEI services support children aged 0-6 years who have a developmental delay or disability and their families/carers. We support families to help children develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life.

You can contact us if concerns about your child’s development have been identified. As every child is different, we will tailor support to your child’s individual needs and circumstances. We will provide you with information and may also:

  • Connect you and your child with the most appropriate supports in your area, such as the community health centre, educational setting and playgroup
  • Provide some short-term early intervention where it has been identified as the most appropriate support
  • Help you to request NDIS access if your child requires longer-term early childhood intervention supports
  • Work with you to develop an NDIS plan, if your child becomes an NDIS participant.

Mission Australia delivers ECEI in:

  • Tasmania - South East and North West
  • From 1 July 2018 New South Wales - Western NSW and Far West NSW
  • From 1 July 2018 Queensland - Cairns
