About Townsville Youth Foyer

Located in Pimlico, The Foyer provides forty, one-bedroom units, fully furnished for eligible participants for up to 24 months.

Townsville Youth Foyer is a culturally safe, inclusive and diverse environment where Young People feel safe and supported to achieve their dreams. Using the “Advantage Thinking” approach, The Foyer provides coaching and support across six key Services which form part of "The Deal".

  3. Health and Wellbeing;
  4. Social Connections;
  5. Civic Participation;
  6. Housing (maintaining a good tenancy).

 

Who we assist

Townsville Youth Foyer is for young people aged 16 – 25 years old who are at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness.
· Eligible for social housing in Queensland / registered on the Queensland Social Housing Register (have an approved DCHDE housing application number).
· Have the capacity for self-care and self-management.
· Motivated and have the capacity to engage with education and / or employment.
· Able to live independently and maintain their own Unit.
· Without a previous serious conviction (charged with an offence involving arson, drug trafficking, violence, or incidents of a sexual nature).
· Willing to engage and work with Youth Coaches and Pathways Specialist across the 6 service offers "The Deal".

Eligibility criteria

- Eligible for social housing in Queensland / registered on the Queensland Social Housing Register (have an approved DCHDE housing application number).
- Aged 16 - 25 years (accommodation is a single occupancy 1-bedroom unit).
- Have the capacity for self-care and self-management.
- Motivated and have the capacity to engage with education and / or employment.
- Able to live independently with maintain their own Unit.
- Without a previous serious conviction (charged with an offence involving arson, drug trafficking, violence, or incidents of a sexual nature).
- Willing to engage and work with Youth Coaches and Pathways Specialists across the 6 Service offers "The Deal".

Referral process

Referrals and Self-Referrals are invited.
1. A young person expresses interest in becoming a Foyer resident. The young person is invited to an information session exploring Advantaged Thinking, the 6 Service offers, and the ‘Deal’.
2. Foyer staff will help the young person determine if the Foyer can meet their needs and consider both eligibility and suitability criteria.
3. Feedback and, or other options will be given to a young person if the Youth Foyer does not meet their needs at this time.
4. When a Foyer vacancy is offered to a young person, a new tenancy sign-up meeting is scheduled, and a move in date is arranged. Young people sign an RTA lease, pay 4 weeks Bond and Rent which is 25% of their income plus 3% for furnishings.
