Better Futures is a new way of supporting care leavers, engaging with young people and their support networks, including case managers and care teams early in their transition from care from age 15 and 9 months through to 21.
Better Futures aims to support young people to have an active voice in their transition planning and providing individualized supports across a range of life areas including housing, education, employment, and community connections.
The level of support offered by Better Futures is dependent upon the circumstances of the young person and current support arrangements.
Based in Dandenong, Case Workers provide a trauma-informed and therapeutic approach to case work support.

Who we assist

Better Futures supports young people who have been subjected to statutory orders and have been placed in OoHC (Foster Care, Kinship Care, Residential Care or a Lead Tenant placement).

Eligibility criteria

Better Futures assists young people aged 15 and 9 months, and who have be residing in a Foster Care, Kinship Care, Residential Care or a Lead Tenant placement and be subject to either a Care by Secretary Order, a Long-Term Care Order or a Family Reunification Order. Better Futures can provide support to all eligible client up until the age of 21 years.

Referral process

For YP who are currenlty subject to a statutory order, referrals to Better Futures are made via a centralised intake point which is managed by MOIRA. YP who are not subject to a statutory order can be referred or can self-refer to Mission Australia directly.
